Yes! Throw Away Your Business Cards
by BIG Mike McDaniel the Small Business Advertising Expert

In the Northwest Airlines Terminal building at the
Detroit Metropolitan Airport, a clever worker has
patched the terrazzo floor. Since I am not there every
day (although it seems like it the traveling I do), I
don't know the reason for the patch. But nonetheless,
it is a patch. You can see it 12 gates away.

The workmanship is fine and perhaps in time it will
age and blend with the floor around it some. A patch
was probably the right choice, given the hundreds of
thousands of square feet of floor to replace to make it
all the same. So I give 'em that. Too expensive to
replace the whole floor, so patch it and make it a
really good patch.

But I can't abide by the tightwad that spends an hour
carefully marking out the email address on a stack of
business cards and painstakingly pencilling in the
new address. Yuk!

What's it gonna cost to buy a new box of cards? Not
much, but even if it was really expensive, I venture to
predict the negative impression of the "mark-out,
pencil-in" change will cost more than a new box of
cards in future business.

Would you opt for any medical anything in a hospital
that used duck tape to hold on a broken door handle? Of
course not. The fix on the cheap route doesn't work for
people in business, especially if they need to make a
favorable impression. Business cards are like that.
They can make, or break, the impression you and your
business make.

If one itty bitty snippet of information on your card
changes, the cards are obsolete and should be pitched
and new ones printed, pronto. There is no excuse for
keeping old cards around. I read a chapter in a book
someone had written that listed 29 things to do with
outdated business cards. One of them was to glue them
together and give them to Gramma so she could prop up
the kitchen table and get her New Testament back.

A crisp, clean, professional looking business card
printed on white glossy stock, with no errors or
changes is the best foot you can put forward in your
business.

Sales Speak from Bob Vila
by BIG Mike McDaniel
Small Business Advertising Expert

With so many different programs, and reruns and re-packaging
of older programs, we can assume there are few people on the
planet who do not know about Bob Vila. Starting with the
original "This Ol’ House" programs on PBS in 1979, Bob Vila
and his empire, have grown into a major force in the Home
Improvement Television genre.

The professional salesperson can learn a whole lot more from
Bob Vila than how to screet concrete or put mud on the
drywall.

Bob Vila is a study in brand awareness. Bob is the brand.
The challenge was getting people to recognize, and
ultimately respect Bob Vila, as THE home improvement expert.
Whatever he did before that first TV program is
inconsequential as is whether or not he can saw a board of
drive a nail (something he does verl little of on his show).

Bob Vila has become a household name. Brand awareness to the
highest degree. This didn’t happen by accident, but by
clever design. The design element continues today, every
time you see him on the tube. How did he do it? Simple, all
he did was tell all the people on TV to call him by name,
over and over. A lot like subliminal advertising. You don’t
realize you are getting the message. A typical segment of
any of his programs, past or present, might go like this:

Bob: Today on our show, Fred Murtz is going to show us how
to cut a board with a handsaw. Welcome to our show Fred.

Fred: Thanks, Bob, glad to be here.

Bob: You’ve been cutting boards for a long time

Fred: I sure have Bob. I got my first hand saw at age seven,
from my grandpa. I brought several saws to show you, Bob.

Bob: Show us how to use that saw (pointing)

Fred: That is a crosscut saw, Bob. It is the mainstay in
most basic construction. Bob, this is the easiest of all
saws to use. You hold it like this, Bob. And when you begin
the movement up and down, you put your index finger along
the side here, can you see that, Bob? That’s how you cut
straighter Bob, with that little finger pointing the way.
(and so on.) catching on?

Everyone Bob talks with uses his name repeatedly. If you
look at it apart from the program, you can see that people
don’t really talk that way. Could all his guests be
instructed to use his name in every sentence possible? Bob
never uses their name after the introduction until the end
bit when he thanks the guest, by name.

So who’s name do we hear, hundreds of times in a program?
Bob Vila! It didn’t take long for him to be recognized as
consummate hammer and nails guru. Better yet, he doesn’t do
any of the work on his shows, he just gets people to use his
name while they do it all.

How does this relate to advertisins and sales you ask? Easy,
you can use the Bob Vila approach on your customers. Use
their name at every opportunity. Practice until you can use
it in every third sentence. It will create an instant
rapport. The more you can use the customer’s name, the more
you can build trust and confidence with that person.

Think about the many times you have watched Bob on TV and
not noticed how the guests use his name over and over. The
majority of people don’t see it until someone (like me in
this article) points it out. Most folks never see the
hidden meaning there, or recognize the unusual sentence
structure. You can use name-infected sentences in any
conversation, to your advantage, every time. They work,
beautifully. And they never offend ("Hey, Fred, would you
mind not using my name so much, I’m sorta sensitive!").

The next time you talk with a customer, remember what Bob
Vila did and you, too, can be the most respected person in
your field.

ArticleBlaster How To Avoid Common Personal Banking Mistakes

Article Content:

Using a bank can really save you money, but there are also ways in which you lose a lot of money. If you are not proactive in recognising potential dangers and mistakes, then you could be caught out. Here are some of the most common personal banking mistakes and how to avoid them.

Not reviewing your statements

Many people get their statement each month, open it and then throw it away. If you don't look at your statements properly then you will not see mistakes on your account that could be costing you a lot of money. If there is a payment that you did not make then you could be charged a fee, and there is also a chance that you card has been copied. Checking your statements against all your purchases each month is imperative.

Paying too much

Many people are too lazy to shop around or to question the fees that they pay each month on their accounts. If you look at the fees you pay you might find that you are paying far too much. If this is the case then it is time to shop around for a better deal, because you could save yourself a lot of money each year just by not paying expensive banking fees.

Leaving paper around

When you look at your bank statement or open bank related information, make sure that you don't leave it lying around. If you carelessly discard information relating to your account then you are an easy target for identity thieves and fraudsters. Make sure that you keep all bank related information in a safe place, and shred any documents that you are going to throw away.

Using ATMs without care

When using an ATM, make sure that you take precautions. Do not write down your PIN number anywhere near your card, and make sure that you shield your number when you type it in. Being aware of people around you when using an ATM can stop most potential crime.

Banking online in public

Although you might need to check your account urgently, checking your online account and carrying out transactions on a wireless network is not totally secure. There is a chance that someone could access your details, or that the transaction will be lost. Use your online banking at home if at all possible.

Not establishing a relationship

If you want to get the best deals from your bank, then you need to establish a relationship with them. If you have a local branch, then arrange a meeting with the bank manager so that you know who they are. Although you might never need their help, if there are any problems or you need extra funds then knowing your bank manager can really help.

Only borrowing from your bank

If you have been loyal to one bank for a while, then perhaps it is time to rethink that loyalty. Although you might think your bank offers the best deal, whenever you want to purchase a new financial product you should shop around. There are many other places, particularly online, that can offer you great deals on borrowing money from credit cards or loans. If you are careful with your banking information and shop around for the best deals, then you can avoid most of these common personal banking mistakes.

When It's Good To Be Used

In today's world, more businesses in the construction industry are finding it more financially beneficial to their businesses to aquire used construction equipment and used heavy construction equipment, when compared to buying them brand new. Most business managers prefer the low capitial investment when buying top quality used construction equipment at exceptional prices. Smaller construction companies are also finding it more beneficial to buy quality used construction equipment because of the low initial price and operating costs. These smaller companies are more able to keep an eye on how the used machines are maintained, so the machines are always in top quality working condition.

Rock and Dirt has one of the largest selections of new and used construction equipment throughout the U.S. As one of the leading companies, Rock and Dirt offers new and used construction equipment for sale and for rent. Offering a wide line machinery from dump trucks to back hoes from all the major manufacturers,e.g. Caterpillar, Bobcat, John Deere, Case, New Holland, Volvo and Hitachi. All new and used construction equipment is available for direct sale, rent, or auction.

Headwater Equipment Sales in Southern Alberta Canada was founded in 1997 dedicated to providing customers with quality machinery that looks good, runs well and sold at a fair price. Headwater Equipment is currently dealing mostly in late models of Caterpillar, John Deere and Hitachi used construction equipment. This company has enlisted a large crew of licensed mechanics, welders and painters with over 25 years of experience in general construction, repair and construction equipment maintenance of used construction equipment and other machinery. Selling more than just used construction equipment, Headwater also offers quality used parts and attachments for sale at fair prices. All used machinery, parts and accessories are cleaned and thoroughly inspected prior to every sale.

Iron Planet, founded in 1999 in Pleasanton, California has grown to be the third-largest auction company in the U.S. that specializes in a wide range of used construction equipment and trucks. Companies, as well as independent contractors, can choose used construction equipment from a full line of the top manufacturers. All used construction equipment are subject to a detailed inspection to assess the equipments actual condition. These inspections are presented free of charge for all potential customers to review before bidding on equipment. All inspections are performed by over 350 professional inspectors with an average of 23 years of heavy equipment experience and who follow a standardized and reliable method of inspection.

There are many good used construction equipment companies materializing across the U.S. and Canada, distributing used construction equipment throughout the world, through auctions, buying and selling. Through these companies you can find a great deal on used construction equipment, to rent, buy out right or to bid on. Through these same companies, you can also sell your own equipment for a reasonable fee and have your own used construction equipment available to buyers and bidders throughout the world.

Yes it's true, you can now earn ClickBank commissions virally!

Before I fully divulge how, I want to just say that one of the
biggest issues I've heard internet marketers complain about
with ClickBank is that they limit you to a 1-tier affiliate
program. Why do they limit you? Well, I don't know for sure,
but there's many possible reasons, the number one reason would
probably be because it's easier for them. Less hassle, less
work, and they already have a huge affiliate base.

2-tier affiliate programs are primarily a way to grow yourself
a huge affiliate base by adding the viral incentive to refer
other affiliates to the program. Since ClickBank has been in
the affiliate business for a long time and has a good
reputation, it's now hard to come by an affiliate marketer who
hasn't heard of them, so they probably don't feel they need a
second tier.

Anyways, lets get onto this new revolutionary service that
allows you to earn ClickBank commissions virally and even gives
more leverage than a 2-tier affiliate program. It uses a method
known as Contextual Advertising, and it's so simple to use for
monetizing your site, that it puts google ads to shame!

Top Adsense marketers like Joel Comm have preached about the
power of simple text ads used throughout your website copy.
These types of ads are just simple links that your eyes follow
over naturally as you read the content of the page. Because
it's right there in the body of the content, it has the readers
attention, and thus their curiosity kicks in, and they click it.
In the case of Adsense text ads, a click will merely get you on
average a few cents. Not too great, but a lot of clicks WILL ad
up.

I'm not here to tell you about google Adsense though, I'm
talking about ClickBank. So here's why this new Contextual Ad
service puts google Adsense to shame. You can sign-up to this
service for free, and then all you have to do is simply paste
some code onto your pages. What happens next is that a
javascript program scans your page for all the words that are
contextually connected to different target products. It then
converts those words into textlinks that link to ClickBank
products. GENIUS!

Okay now, listen closely, here's where the viral marketing
aspect comes into play. As someone is surfing your page they
might click on one of these unsuspecting links and be directed
to a ClickBank product, and if they buy, you get the affiliate
commission. Now if you refer others to this service, they will
add it to their websites and when someone clicks on a link,
their affiliate ID gets tracked to the product, but when the
next person clicks on a link, YOUR affiliate ID gets tracked.
Now if that person refers someone to the service who uses the
code, then YOUR ID gets tracked to the 3rd click. Get the idea?

This is a 5 level system, which means you could get paid
exponentially by referring more people who refer more people,
and then you're getting commissions from websites all over the
internet in various niche markets.

The one disadvantage is that on your own website, you still
only get YOUR affiliate ID tracked to every 5th click (Because
the other 4 clicks go to your upline).

The key advantage here is in subaffiliate leverage.
Multiplication is the factor of success with this viral
marketing affiliate ad service. As you tell people, who each
tell people, who each tell people, who each tell people, then
it ends up being a lot of people in your downline really
quickly.

This service only just launched on Tuesday September 19th,
2006. Not too many people know about it yet, but I'll bet the
word is going to spread fast, and if you're the one spreading
it, you'll be in a good position to profit exponentially.

Have You Tried Writing Your Own Biography?

I had no idea how difficult it is to be articulate, concise and
yet be informative about key facets of ones life. Let alone make
your biography interesting enough, that it may spark some level
of interest for someone to explore more about what you have to
offer. It was a great exercise for me and I think writing your
own biography will be introspective, fun for you, your family,
friends and even colleagues.

I had no idea where to begin, so I researched the internet and
found a couple of good starting points to learn a little bit out
biographies and what they contain:

* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biography
* http://www.infoplease.com/people.html
* http://www.mozartproject.org/biography/index.html

I found the research interesting because of the variety of famous
people documented and commented on. One common editorial on
biography writing is, be careful about telling a false story
about the actual events. As one critic commented, do not fall in
love with your subject, stick to a timeline, key facts and points
you want to make. By all means select you can select positive,
actionable words, but stick to the events; do not make up a
story.

Ok, here is what I think the key items are that need to be
included in your biography. First you need to set a time frame,
birth to present day, started my career xx years ago, during the
years between 19xx and 20xx, you get the idea. Next, include
geographical location, key events, milestones, adventures and
incidents that shaped who and what you were about during this
time frame. Include historical events (natural, world or local)
if you believe they add significance. Close with where you are at
today, geography if important and what you see yourself doing in
the future.

This is one biography example I wrote: Kent Jacobson is a
traditional working professional, graduated college, accepted an
engineering position in Dallas 23 years ago and over the years
has developed a keen sense of what it takes to be successful in a
corporate environment. Through his years of experience, training,
professional certifications and corporate instinct, Kent has
acquired a broad perspective on what it takes to become
successful and now shares his insights for success with a loyal
following of Blog readers at:
http://www.Shortcut2Success.com/blog There are different as many
different ways to write your biography as there are kinds of
apples, my intent was to help get you prepared so when the
request is made you are better prepared. Have fun with your
biography, you might even surprise someone in your family or one
of your friends by writing about them.
